Manchester design firm gives helping hand to tomorrow's designers

As part of their new website, Different Angle Design today launched an online resource directory for industrial design students in the UK. The directory was the idea of Justin Baker, the company MD, who wanted these resources to become easier to find for students. Included are links to UK design societies, other online directories, periodicals, and materials sources, as well as listings of over 100 useful books relating to industrial design. This is the first time that such a database has been compiled with UK students specifically in mind.

The links are relevant to those studying product and industrial design, as well as transport design, architecture and interior design. During his time as a design student, Mr. Baker found that while there were good resources on the internet for industrial design, it took a lot of effort to find them. He came up with the idea of listing all the links he had collected to make them available for students who came after him, and the new directory was formed as a result. The resource is still in its earliest stages, but is already averaging over 1000 hits per week, and will eventually grow into a complete resource for the UK-based design student. Future plans include more categories and possibly forums and a chat room.

Mr. Baker said: "By providing this resource, we are investing in the future of our industry. Today's budding students are tomorrow's valuable employees. It is to every business's advantage to ensure that there is a skilled labour pool to choose from."
